Geekvape Avocado Bottom Airflow – Does Bigger Mean Better?

RDTAs Reviews
With my love of the Geekvape Avocado RDTA I’ve decided to review the “big brother” of the Avocado range, the Geekvape Avocado 24 Bottom Airflow RDTA. Do not mistake the Avocado 24 with this one, the Avocado 24 Bottom Airflow now includes, you guessed it, a bottom airflow! Now does it come close the RDTA I know and love? Does bigger really mean better? Lets find out…

A quick look at some basic facts:

  • Tank size: 24mm diameter
  • Juice Capacity: 4ml
  • Colour availability: Silver / Black
  • Material used: Stainless steel body, Pyrex glass
  • Drip tip: 10mm Delrin “wide bore” drip tip
  • Deck Style: Velocity 2 post deck
  • Coil configuration: single coil and dual coil ability
  • Pin: Gold plated adjustable 510 pin

What do you get in the box

  • The avocado RDTA
  • A spare Pyrex glass
  • Delrin wide bore drip tip
  • Adaptor for a 510 drip tip
  • Chamber reducer
  • Bag of spare parts
  • T style hex key

Who is this tank for?

As like the Avocado RDTA this is a buildable tank – there are no pre built coils you screw in, this is a builders deck. This is for the more intermediate builder as well as the more advanced builder due to the ample space for larger builds. The velocity style deck does make it easier to build one which I would normally place in the camp of a new coil builder but this just isn’t the tank for them, sometimes too much space isn’t a good thing! Size is also an issue so those who like small mods would not be fond of this tank. Also, if you’re of a lung to mouth vaper I’d stay away from this

Design & quality

Like everything I’ve bought from Geekvape the quality of this tank is no exception, it’s fantastic. The stainless steel used is top notch and for the price range (£20-£30) you feel like you’re getting a premium tank.
Unlike the Avocado RDTA and the previous Avocado 24 this tank incorporates bottom airflow into the coils. If you’ve never tried a bottom airflow tank you’re missing out. The vape is smooth, fully open or almost completely closed the airflow is perfect, and with the coils sitting directly above the air holes its gets plenty of air flying in making for a better overall vape. This is the takes biggest positive.
The shape of the top is described as a bell shape, does that mean you have a “bell end” on top of your mod, well yes but that’s a good thing! Most RDTA’s I’ve used tend to have an issue with condensation but with the introduction of the “bell” shape it does help to reduce this a lot. Does it look as slick, that’s down to you, but it is useful.
The deck itself is a velocity style deck with decent enough holes are huge, you’ll be hard pressed to find a build which wont fit. Like all velocity style decks it’s very easy to build on.
One of the problems with the original Avocado RDTA was filling the tank. The Avocado 24 fixed this my adding a fill section which was great but Geekvape went one step further and introduced a slide design to fill the tank (below). Great on paper, USELESS in real life! This is the biggest problem of the tank and one which could potentially ruin your experience with the tank. It just doesn’t work. And unlike the previous ceramic block which was used for single coil build this new block has been designed specifically to fit in with the new slide fill which makes it a pain to remove and put back in. In dual coil you’ll end up ripping out your hair trying to refill this! (Its a pain you’ll only know once you own one of these tanks… until then you have no idea the suffering you have to go through to refill!!)
Like all Avocado tanks, to clean you need to remove the pin to get to the tank. Its a pain for sure but this does feel more sturdy than any of the other Avocado tanks that I’ve tried. At the end of the day the tank feel is premium but the design is let down by the slide filling mechanism. Big shame

Performance

There are three key areas which I always look for in a tank, buildability, clouds, and to me the most important of all, flavour.
Buildability, as mentioned, is a breeze to build on. There is soo much space your mind can go into overdrive to try out new builds and the Avocado 24 Bottom Airflow will take it all and keep asking for more. Big plus
Clouds – The clouds are massive. With that bottom airflow opened all the way the clouds which can be made on the tank are fantastic. If you want to smoke out a room you can do it easily. You want to set of a hotels fire alarm by vaping this your room well, not that I know from first hand experience, but you can definitely do it in less than 4 pulls…. ! As mentioned, that bottom airflow is the money right there for the tank, any day of the week.
Finally, flavour. I don’t exactly know what to say about this. The flavour is good, on par with the Avocado RDTA and with that bottom airflow you get something more. But on a dual coil. Unlike the Avocado RDTA which, in my opinion, produced the best flavour on a single coil, this works best dual coil. And do not vape Twelve Monkeys Kanzi on this. I was soo disappointed when I first tried this tank that I didn’t touch it for the rest of the night. I was expecting it to be the killer of the Avocado RDTA but it just didn’t happen for me. What really got me though was when I put in a desert flavoured juice (MOMO Drizzle Dream). OMG! The flavour blew me away. I had to test this again with French Dude liquid! Wow, the flavour that came out was excellent. How about Far Gr8pe? Nope not as good. For some reason the Avocado 24 Bottom Airflow pushed the boundaries of favour with the more dessert/cream type juices more than the fruity. I tried different coils from Alien to SS Clapton and each result was the same. If you’re a dessert/cream vaper looking for some flavour this might be for you.

Final Thoughts

I’m naturally a sweet vaper which, given the tests, meant that it wouldn’t be for me. But for those times I like to switch it up this does bring the flavour – and the clouds (see the hotel note…). The size is good to build on and that bottom airflow is something special. But the filling issue… oh the filling issue. I just don’t know what to say. If something like that doesn’t bother you then go ahead but remember I did warn you on it! Would I buy it again? I just don’t know. If I vaped the right juice 24/7 and had all my juices in a syringe then definitely a yes, right now, I’m just not sure.

Pros

The bottom air flow. Plus. The buildable size. Plus. The clouds. Plus. Flavour. Plus(ish depending on juice!)

Cons

The juice filling. Why oh why oh why??!! I simply don’t get it. My patience is not the best it can be, and I feel even if it was I’d still eventually lose it. Big let down on this. Not so much for a single coil build but you need that juice coil to maximise that flavor.

Note: For score I had to give quality 1/10 solely for the way you have to fill the tank – otherwise quality is an easy 8/10
